SBI Soccer has reported that Newcastle United want to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers, after his strong campaign with Celtic.
Chris Sutton even claimed the defender was ‘the best player in Scotland‘ from this season. However, due to the success of his loan spell, Celtic will also want to sign the 24-year-old.
Should Newcastle United sign Cameron Carter-Vickers?
This summer Newcastle United will be looking to reshape the squad. A number of players will look to be sold and brought in. The options in defence need to be addressed this summer.
Both Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez have hardly played under Eddie Howe. So they will probably depart this summer. The Magpies will need a couple more centre-backs to give them depth at the back.
Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are the go-to men for Howe. But the Toon boss will want competition for places. There’s no doubt Cameron Carter-Vickers has had strong seasons with Bournemouth and Celtic.
But the Toon should look at other options ahead of him. Other Newcastle transfer targets include Goncalo Ignacio and Evan Ndicka to name a few.
Furthermore, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Carter-Vickers sign permanently with Celtic. He’s become a fan favourite and would start for them next season. Some Celtic fans would be excited to see the move. There are plenty of reasons for him to make the move to Scotland.
However, beyond the summer window, they should keep an eye on him. There’s no doubt Carter-Vickers has shown talent and could be a future signing if he continues to develop his game.
