Goncalo Inacio is not interested in a move to Newcastle United. A recent report from A Bola has stated that he wants to win the league with his current side Sporting CP. This latest update came after the 20-year-old was linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Last month, Record reported that Newcastle were insistent on signing Inacio this summer. Despite the wealth of the new owners, it’s highly unlikely the Toon will be challenging for the Premier League next season. So it seems that Inacio’s future is with Sporting for now.

The Portuguese side won the Primeira Liga back in 2021 and finished 2nd to Porto this season. It’s likely that Sporting will be challenging for the league next season.

It’s a blow for Newcastle, but there’s other options available

The Toon tried to sign the defender in January, bidding £25 million for him (A Bola). Persuing him a second time would likely end with the same result. It’s clear from the report that Inacio is not interested in Newcastle.

Other defenders have been linked with the Magpies thus far. Nathan Ake is a name that’s appeared recently, but if they want to sign him, he’d cost them £50 million.

In addition, Sven Botman has emerged this summer as another target. But AC Milan are confident they will land the Dutch centre-back.

If Inacio wants to win titles next season, so be it. If he looked at the bigger picture, he might see Newcastle have something big on the horizon. However, he’s clearly happy with Sporting. After all, he is Portuguese, so he could be very content living in his home nation.

It looks as if Newcastle’s hunt for another centre-back will continue. Inacio’s future clearly doesn’t lie with the Toon, which is a shame as he’s an exciting young talent.

But the transfer window still doesn’t open for another few days, so there’s plenty of time for Newcastle to strengthen their defensive options.
