Report: Newcastle have money to make more signings in January

The summer transfer window is over, but Newcastle are already making plans for January.

It’s been an exciting summer at St James’ Park, with four new faces joining Eddie Howe’s side for £123million. More were expected, but the over-inflated market made it difficult for the Magpies to make a real splash.

But the club should be very happy with the business they’ve done. The squad is stronger than it was last season, while the players have enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign. While we’ve only won once so far, we’ve proven ourselves against the top two teams in the country in Manchester City and Liverpool.

It’s a far cry from last season, when Newcastle needed help in the January transfer window to avoid relegation.

That shouldn’t happen this time, but it doesn’t mean the Toon owners won’t return to the market when it opens again this winter.

Newcastle have money for January, could look revisit summer targets

According to i News, there is money available for Newcastle to spend in January if the club decide they need further reinforcements.

That’s a positive, especially if Howe’s side are in need of improvement halfway through the season. That could be because we’re underperforming, or because we’re perhaps another great player away from having a really special end to the campaign.

There is reportedly money to spend, but what should it be spent on? i News add that Newcastle may revisit some summer targets that they missed out on.

Given some of the players we missed out on this summer, that is very exciting. The likes of Jack Harrison and James Maddison were targets who would have massively improved Howe’s team. That will likely still be the case in January.

We were also linked with Leicester’s Youri Tielemans, who could be even cheaper this winter with his contract winding down. If the Foxes decide to cash in late, Newcastle could have a bargain on their hands.

There’s also the possibility of the loan market. Conor Gallagher and Christian Pulisic were both targets who were denied moves away from Stamford Bridge. Perhaps that will change if they fail to play regular football.

Newcastle have already shown that they are not scared to revisit former targets. It happened with Sven Botman who eventually joined the club this summer. It also happened with Hugo Ekitike…who didn’t join the club this summer.

Let’s hope if Newcastle do make a fresh move for one of their summer targets that it ends like the former rather than the latter.
