Italian news outlet Il Messaggero has reported that Newcastle United have bid for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Additonally, Arsenal have also put in an offer for the Lazio midfielder too. The same report states that both sides’ offers are worth somewhere in the region of £43 million to £47 million.
The Serbian’s agent ex-Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman says that Milinkovic-Savic will leave Lazio this summer. In the past, his agent has described his client as having some qualities that are ‘better than Pogba’ (Mozzart Sport).
At 27-years-old and a well-established name in Serie A, the midfielder would definitely improve a lot of teams. However, a move to Tyneside looks unlikely due to Newcastle’s midfield options.

It’s unlikely Newcastle would splash the cash for Milinkovic-Savic, he plays in a position they have plenty of cover for
If Newcastle have bid for Milinkovic-Savic then that will be a surprise for some fans. The Toon have a number of midfielders at the club already.
Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have established themselves as Eddie Howe’s trio in midfield. Whilst Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff have been strong backups, giving the boss a selection dilemma.
With Longstaff signing a new deal recently and Willock and Shelvey back from injury recently, that’s five midfielders. Howe has shown no signs of looking to sell any of them. So in terms of Newcastle’s midfield options, they look set.

Considering his abilities a number of clubs will want him. Therefore if Milinkovic-Savic will leave Lazio this summer, he’ll have a number of takers.
The Magpies have other areas on the pitch to strengthen in. They want to bring in a striker and a winger before the window closes. One of their main targets is Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen. The German side would be open to selling him, but a price cannot be agreed upon.
With that in mind, the Toon signing another midfielder wouldn’t make a lot of sense. They have enough cover there and have other priorities they need to address.
