Newcastle United could reportedly make another attempt to sign Ross Barkley on loan if he’s made available by Chelsea.
The midfielder has just finished his season-long loan at Aston Villa, and it’s unlikely he’ll be going back there permanently.
Barkely started really well and struck up an exciting understanding with Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins.
But the star suffered a hamstring injury around Christmas time, and he was never really able to get back to the level he showed at the start of the season.
Grealish being unavailable through injury for the last couple of months also seemingly affected him.
Apparently, Newcastle would be interested if he became available for another loan.
The Chronicle reported in January that Steve Bruce had actually wanted to sign him last summer, but was blocked after ‘making a pitch’.
Only if Willock pursuit fails
Barkley’s form with Villa in the second half of the season was undoubtedly disappointing.
Really Newcastle shouldn’t be looking to bring him in, especially if a permanent transfer for Joe Willock is facilitated.
After his stunning loan spell, he is the attacking midfielder Newcastle should be concentrating on.
