Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is reportedly ‘confident’ that the proposed takeover of the club will go through in 2022.
That was the claim yesterday from 90min, who say the 57-year-old and his legal team believe the arbitration ruling will go in their favour.

Ashley is hopeful of selling to the consortium that had agreed a £300 million deal to buy the club in 2020.
That consortium, of course, is comprised of Amanda Staveley (through PCP Capital Partners), the Reuben Brothers and Saudia Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Ashley has launched two legal challenges against the Premier League, the first of which had been due to take place this summer. It is now happening in January.
His other is the anti-competition case, which has not yet been given the go-ahead.

And on September 29th, the CAT jurisdiction hearing will take place.
90min say that Staveley’s consortium remain ready to do a deal and that an agreement could be ‘closer than ever’.
PIF are said to have interest in other clubs, like Inter Milan, but that is thought not to affect their interest in Newcastle.
Newcastle fans will believe it when they see it
Newcastle fans have suffered for long enough.
Ashley may be feeling confident the takeover will go through next year, but many Newcastle fans are unlikely to get excited over this information.

We have been here before with Ashley confident of selling and it hasn’t happened.
Desperate Toon fans will wait with baited breath. But at least the indications are that Staveley and PIF are still keen to acquire Newcastle, which is a relief given everything that’s happened with the Premier League.
