The agents of Newcastle United midfielder Miguel Almiron are reportedly unhappy with the lack of movement on a new contract for their client.
According to an article in The Athletic, his representatives are believed to have been slightly irritated by the fact that the Paraguay international has not yet been offered improved terms like Allan Saint-Maximin was earlier this season.
The Frenchman penned a new six-year deal back in October, which came just over a year after joining the club from Nice.
Almiron has now been at Newcastle for two years, joining from Atlanta United in January 2019 for a reported fee of £20 million (ESPN) and has not yet been handed a new contract.
The information about Almiron’s reps being unhappy arrives after Daniel Campos had rather a lot to say about his client in November.
He claimed Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and ‘big English clubs’ all wanted to sign Almiron (via The Athletic) and also added that, had it not been for the pandemic, the South American would have departed St. James’ Park.
Almiron ended up remaining with the Magpies, and is now beginning to shine following a recent system change.
New terms will beckon if Almiron keeps performing
That Almiron’s agents are reportedly unhappy with a lack of movement on a new contract won’t go down too well with Newcastle fans.
There have already been hints of the people that represent Almiron being an issue.
Hopefully the player can keep his focus and continue to perform for the club. Slowly but surely he is starting to justify that £20 million transfer fee, and he could easily warrant an offer of fresh terms later this year if he keeps making significant contributions.
