The Telegraph has reported that two Newcastle United players are currently set for new contracts. Both Fabian Schar and Jonjo Shelvey are reportedly going to be rewarded with new deals on Tyneside.
Boss Eddie Howe has spoken highly of the duo before and both have impressed since his arrival.
Schar has returned to the starting XI, starting all but one league game for Newcastle under Howe.

Shelvey was often in the starting XI for the previous manager Steve Bruce. However, he struggled to find any consistency in that time, frustrating some fans. But he’s turned it around and is delivering consistent performances under Howe.
Howe has changed Newcastle for the better; Schar and Shelvey are examples of that
Since Howe’s arrival in November, the Magpies have been on an upward trajectory. Since the beginning of 2022, the results have been excellent. They’re now unbeaten in six games, with a chance to extend it to seven against Brentford.
Both Schar and Shelvey are examples of the change in form from the Toon. As previously mentioned Schar has found his way back into the side. But he seems vastly improved than he did previously.

It looks as if he and new signing Dan Burn are shaping up to be an impactful centre-back pairing. Howe has admitted previously he’s been an ‘admirer’ of the Swiss international for quite a while, per The Chronicle.
As for Shelvey, he’s an important third of the Toon’s midfield three. Alongside, Joe Willock and Joelinton, Newcastle look as if they have a lot more quality and fight in the middle of the park.
In addition, Howe has previously spoken positively of the English midfielder. The manager described Shelvey early on in his stint as an ‘incredible technician’, per The Shields Gazette.

It’s no surprise that Schar and Shelvey are reportedly set for new deals. Both look much improved to how they were at the start of the season.
The Swiss centre-half has worked his way back into the starting XI. Meanwhile, Shelvey has improved his overall game in midfield.
The move will delight fans, especially given rumours that Schar could leave on a free in the summer.
