The future of Steve Bruce at Newcastle United still isn’t certain.

Two months ago, however, it seemed like there was only one option.

When Newcastle lost to Brighton, relegation felt inevitable. The Magpies were in freefall, while Fulham were on the rise.

Bruce did not look capable of galvanising this team.

Eight games later, though, and Newcastle are preparing for another season of Premier League football.

The Magpies secured safety with three games to spare, ensuring they didn’t face a nervy final day trip to Craven Cottage.

However, this season has been far from a success.

While we have ended the season positively, the majority of the campaign has been bleak.

We’ve seen wretched football and wretched results. Fortunately, we found form at the right time.

Bruce managed to avoid the sack, and now has the chance to end the season with 45 points. It would equal the tally Rafa Benitez got in 2019.

According to the Telegraph, the 60-year-old could walk away if the club are unwilling to sign the players to potentially take us into the top 10.

Joe Willock is the manager’s number one target.

Signing Willock could also ensure Allan Saint-Maximin remains at St James’ Park, the Telegraph claim.

If we are going to become a top 10 club, we need to keep players like Saint-Maximin. We need to sign players like Willock.

The squad needs a lot of investment to take us into the top half, but the foundations are already there.

We have seen in recent weeks that this is a talented side capable of being a threat.

While Bruce could reportedly walk if he isn’t backed, some fans would argue that a change in manager would give us the best chance of climbing the table.
