The Newcastle manager race between Eddie Howe and Unai Emery was won by the latter, but suddenly the former is now the favourite.
A dramatic few days on Tyneside has seen the club go from preparing to appoint Emery to turning their attention to the former Bournemouth boss.
The pair were named by the Athletic as the leading two candidates for the job on Tuesday, with Emery the man they wanted.

But a move for the Spaniard collapsed on Wednesday, meaning Howe is now back in the race and could well be the only horse left.
Emery and Howe were reportedly interviewed by the club over the weekend, and the Athletic have provided some interesting information on the process.
How Eddie Howe reportedly impressed Newcastle in his interview
The Athletic report that Howe actually interviewed better than Emery. However, the 50-year-old’s CV and profile put him ahead. Alas, it was all for nothing.
They add that Howe had a clear vision for the club, discussing how he plans to move the Magpies away from the bottom three, as well as players he may want to target in January and how he can work alongside Graeme Jones.

It sounds as if the 43-year-old has given the Newcastle job a lot of thought. He’s been out of work for more than a year, seemingly waiting for the right opportunity to come his way.
But is Newcastle the right opportunity? While he might be saying the right things in interview, the proof will be in the pudding…or on the pitch.
Now we wait for the new Toon owners to decide whether or not Howe is the right man to take the club forward. Here’s hoping that if they do decide to go with him they can get him in charge for Saturday’s trip to Brighton.
