Report: What some Newcastle players told Amanda Staveley during manager search

Eddie Howe has history with a few current Newcastle players from his time at Bournemouth.

The 43-year-old is set to be appointed as Steve Bruce’s replacement, with reports stating he will sign a two-and-a-half year deal at St James’ Park.

It will be Howe’s first job since 2020 when he left Bournemouth following their relegation to the Championship.

While that fact may worry some fans, his overall career on the south coast is reason to be excited about his imminent appointment.

Howe took the Cherries from League Two all the way to the Premier League, with an exciting brand of football helping them complete an unlikely journey to the top.

And it appears that Howe made a lasting impression on those Bournemouth players, some of which are at Newcastle United right now.

According to the Daily Mail, some of the ex-Bournemouth players gave their support to Howe when speaking to Amanda Staveley about the club’s managerial search.

Matt Ritchie, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser were all signed by Howe and got their big break in the Premier League thanks to his management.

And Howe will no doubt lean on those players in the opening few weeks of his tenure, even if an awkward reunion with Fraser is on the horizon.

It speaks volumes about Howe that his ex-players backed him for the job to the new Toon owners, especially when you consider some of the other names linked.

Then again, we don’t have any ex-Juventus players to tell Staveley that Antonio Conte would’ve been a great appointment too…

All joking apart, Howe looks set to be the man to lead the new era for Newcastle United, and fans will be giving him their full support at what is an incredibly exciting time for the club.
