Chris Wilder was reportedly considered by Newcastle United before they plumped for Steve Bruce.

The 53-year-old has become the third managerial casualty of the season in the Premier League, leaving Sheffield United after just under five years at the helm.

Despite taking the Blades from League One up to English top-flight and finishing ninth in 2019/20, the ruthless decision has been taken.

With lots of fans feeling like the club are going down anyway, some are utterly perplexed by the news.

In some people’s eyes, Wilder is the ideal candidate to manage them in the Championship next season.

Newcastle fans have also been all over this particular development, with many on social media imploring the club to bring Wilder in as a replacement for Bruce.

Interestingly according to The Athletic, Wilder was actually briefly on Newcastle’s radar before they hired Bruce.

The decision Newcastle should take, but won’t

Wilder did an absolutely terrific job at Sheffield United getting them up to the Premier League from League One and spending such little money in the process.

He is proven to be able to work effectively without spending millions, making him the absolutely ideal person to manage Newcastle, a club that does possess several talented players on paper.

Newcastle are in serious danger under Bruce.

The obvious decision to take right now would be to get the unattached Wilder in in Bruce’s place, but realistically it’s just highly unlikely happen.
