Away from the takeover talk, there is another club reportedly interested in signing Dwight Gayle.

While all the noise at Newcastle is about the Bin Zayed Group, other teams are getting on with their transfer business, including newly promoted Aston Villa.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Dean Smith’s side are interested in a summer move for Gayle, who spent last season on loan at rivals West Brom.

Gayle almost stopped Villa winning promotion

The striker scored 24 goals for the Baggies, including one in the playoff defeat to Aston Villa. In the first leg, Gayle was an absolute menace. He scored the opener, stretched the defence and riled up the Villa fans.

Had he not been sent off for a second yellow card late on, the second leg could’ve been very different.

But alas, Villa progressed to the final, where they beat Derby County on Monday afternoon 2-1, ending their three year spell out of the top flight.

Their main striker this season was Tammy Abraham, on loan from Chelsea. So they’ll need another forward, and apparently Gayle is one they’re looking at.

It’s clear that he has no future at Newcastle. After such a brilliant season, it’s no surprise that the likes of Villa are keen.

Whether or not he can score the goals to keep them in the Premier League is their problem.
