Elliot Anderson could stay at Newcastle United this summer. The Athletic states that should the Magpies go without adding any more attacking options, the prospect could stay and not go out on loan.
Newcastle have struggled to bring in a new attacking player this summer and as the weeks go by, Anderson’s chances of sticking around at St. James’ Park are said to be increasing.
The 19-year-old shone on loan at Bristol Rovers where he made a huge impact and helped them get promoted to League One.
He became a fan favourite in Bristol. He even got his own chant where he was dubbed ‘the Geordie Maradona’. With a successful spell away, some fans thought the next logical step for Anderson would be another loan move this coming season.
The hope was he would get a chance to go on loan to the Championship this summer. Anderson himself said he was open to another loan move.

A loan move would be best for Anderson, it’s too early for a full season with Newcastle
Anderson’s stint with Bristol Rovers in League Two was his first season of consistent senior football. So shooting him all the way up to the Premier League is a big gamble.
Furthermore, it was for half a season. The 19-year-old he should be given a full season of consistent game time. There’s obviously the possibility Anderson could stay at Newcastle and be an instant success.
But there’s no need to rush ‘the Geordie Maradona’. In addition, there’s still plenty of time to go in the transfer window. Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen Newcastle’s attacking options, with a striker and a winger right at the top of his shopping list.
Should a player in each of those positions arrive then the Magpies will have had a perfect summer.

When it comes to strikers Newcastle has been linked with Duvan Zapata, Alexander Isak and Armando Broja (who looks West Ham bound). As for wingers names such as Moussa Diaby and Jack Harrison have emerged as potential new signings.
The Toon should definitely look to bring in a forward and a winger this summer. Anderson could succeed when given the chance as a fringe player but it could stunt his development. He should be getting consistent first-team football after his successful stint with Bristol Rovers.
Ideally, a move to the Championship would be best. If he can prove to be a top player in that division, the season after next he could be ready to be part of the Magpies’ squad.
