Newcastle signed nine players during the summer and winter transfer window, with varying degrees of success.
With such little money to spend, the chances of striking gold with each signing are slim. But Rafa Benitez has manged to unearth some real gems, while he also got the chance to break the club’s long-standing transfer record.
How as each signing performed at St James’ Park this season?
Martin Dubravka, 8/10
The goalkeeper’s loan move was made permanent last summer and Dubravka has continued his good form.
We have seen a few errors from him, but they shouldn’t take away from what a brilliant first full season in Newcastle colours its been.

Federico Fernandez, 6/10
The Argentinian arrived from Swansea on deadline day last summer, providing cover for Florian Lejeune.
Fernandez had a great start to his Toon career, but eventually lost his place. His appearances in the second half of the season were hit and miss.
Fabian Schar, 10/10
An absolute bargain.
Schar has been a revelation for Benitez, becoming a cult hero thanks to his wonder-goals and marauding runs from the back.
On top of his attacking exploits, Schar has also been great defensively since we moved to a back five.
Antonio Barreca, 0/10
What was the point? The lad couldn’t even get on the bench most of the time.
Barreca played just once for Newcastle, coming off the bench in the defeat to Tottenham. It’s fair to say we won’t be seeing his loan move made permanent.
Ki Sung-Yueng, 6/10
Signed on a free from Swansea, Ki Sung-Yueng became the first Asian player ever to be signed by Newcastle this summer.
The midfielder has done okay, forming a great partnership with Mo Diame at times. Fans wanted to see him play alongside Jonjo Shelvey, but never got their wish.
He’s a decent option in the middle, but should be no more than a squad player.
Kenedy, 2/10
The Brazilian returned to St James’ Park for another loan spell, but this one was an absolute disaster.
He scored just once, a great finish against Manchester United, but was unable to recapture his form from last season. He’s another player whose loan deal won’t be made permanent.
Miguel Almiron, 9/10
The most expensive player in Newcastle’s history, Miguel Almiron transformed the way we played when he arrived on January.
The goals and assists haven’t flowed, but his pace and movement have given us something we’ve been missing for years offensively. I can’t wait to watch him again next season.
Yoshinori Muto, 3/10
Considering he cost £9.5million, Muto has been a real disappointment.
The Japanese forward hasn’t received many chances, often coming off the bench in games where Newcastle were behind.
Does he have a future at the club? After his first season, it’s hard to see where he fits in.
Salomon Rondon, 10/10
Sign. Him. Permanently.
Rondon’s loan spell was a real hit and his form was a key reason for our survival.
It wasn’t just about his goals, the 29-year-old got the best out of his teammates too. Rondon is the perfect striker for Benitez and will hopefully be back next season.
Available for £16.5million, Mike Ashley has to do the right thing despite his age.
