Ralph Hasenhuttl believes Newcastle are a ‘completely different team’ following the January transfer window.
The Magpies take on Southampton on Thursday night, in a game that was initially set to take place on January 2nd. However, it was postponed due to COVID cases in the Newcastle camp.
The cancellation infuriated the Saints boss at the time, who pondered whether it’s fair for Newcastle to use their new signings when the rearranged fixture takes place.
His comments were absurd at the time, and now Hasenhuttl has readdressed the situation.

Ralph Hasenhuttl ready for ‘completely different’ Newcastle
Hasenhuttl spoke to the press on Wednesday ahead of the game with Newcastle, and had this to say about Thursday night’s encounter.
“Strange now to concentrate on a game you should’ve played two months ago against a completely different team but it is how it is,” he said.
When questioned further, he said: “It’s not on me to discuss this. We spoke about that there’s a chance in the transfer window to change the team completely. I think they did.”

Saints boss hasn’t been paying attention
Newcastle United are a ‘completely different team’ now, but that’s not all down to the new signings. It’s mainly down to hard work and application from new boss Eddie Howe.
The Toon manager has enhanced so many players at St James’ Park. The likes of Fabian Schar, Joelinton and Jonjo Willock look reborn. Then you’ve got Ryan Fraser, who is playing the best football of his Newcastle career.
The current stars are players who were already at the club – not the new arrivals in January. Yes, the new recruits have made a difference. There is no denying that. But they aren’t the only reason Newcastle are suddenly looking up.

Hasenhuttl’s comments seem like a deflection tactic – a ready-made excuse if the result goes against his side. But his words are quite insulting to the original Toon players who have improved so much.
When Newcastle face Southampton tomorrow night, Howe could call upon as many as four new signings.
Will they be the difference? It will be somewhat ironic if they are.
