So there we have it. Newcastle United have confirmed that Rafa Benitez will leave the club.

The news broke on Monday afternoon, as talk about his possible departure began to ramp up over the weekend. A contract extension seemingly wasn’t possible, much to the anger of fans.

The statement provided by the club is even more infuriating.

“We have worked hard to extend Rafa’s contract over a significant period of time, however it has not been – and will not be – possible to reach an agreement with Rafa and his representatives,” the statement on the club’s official website reads.

What a load of rubbish. If you’d worked hard, a deal would’ve been completed. The club didn’t work hard enough. Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley didn’t do enough to keep the best thing they had. Instead they continue to make a mockery of a club that has had its heart and soul ripped out.

The final line reads: “We would also like to thank our supporters, players and staff for their patience during a period of uncertainty”

You’re not welcome, at all. Take your thank yous elsewhere. The uncertainty isn’t over. One thing is for sure, this club will be even worse off next season now that Benitez has gone and it looks like Ashley will still be the owner.

This is incredibly hard to stomach. Where do we turn now? Which washed up manager will play Ashley’s game and be the yes man he wants? I dread to think…
