Rafa Benitez says the improved weather is the reason for Ayoze Perez’s incredible form.
The Spanish forward has been on a brilliant run, scoring five goals in his last four games. Three of those goals came in one game, netting his first Newcastle hat-trick against Southampton.
Perez has looked confident, a far cry from how he started the season where a lot of supporters were getting on his back, which led to his ‘fingers in ears’ celebration.
And his manager has joked about the reason for his recent rejuvenation.
“We don’t know why,” Benitez told the club’s official website.
“Maybe because he’s from Tenerife, where it is sunny all the time, and the weather is improving here he is feeling better.
“The people around him have been helping him to play well.”
Perez’s form has caught the attention of others
As was to be expected, Perez’s recent goalscoring exploits has seen his name enter the gossip columns.
Perez has spoke about potentially leaving the club this summer, which only adds fuel to the fire.
Considering how well he has played lately, it will be disappointing to see him leave. But the chance to play European football might be too hard to turn down for a player who turns 26 in July.
Providing he stays too, Benitez will be desperate to keep Perez at the club.
