There’s no getting away from the fact that it’s bleak times at St James’ Park.

Protests

With many moans and groans on the terraces over recent seasons, supporters are beginning to see their frustration boil over. While the Magpie Group’s planned boycott against Wolves didn’t go ahead, it appears that Newcastle fans are prepared to walk when the season ends.

Taking to Twitter, United fan @ToonPolls asked his followers whether they’ll be there next season. Perhaps unsurprisingly, only 16% remained committed to the cause.

Nearly half of those who responded claimed that their future was linked to the club’s ability to keep a hold of Rafael Benitez. But, with another shambolic transfer window on the horizon, it remains unknown whether the Spaniard will sign the one-year extension on the table.

Will Newcastle fans return?

With Newcastle’s away day following consistently selling out, many of the fans who remained torn suggested in a follow-up poll that it was the away points they’d amassed that keep them renewing – and the fear of missing out.

What will next season look like at St James’ Park if, as fans expect, Benitez leaves and Ashley remains in charge? Something simply must happen between now and the end of the season, otherwise this nightmare becomes an even worse reality.
