Newcastle United’s Ryan Fraser has been on fire recently. The winger has been nominated for Player of the Month for February. One standout performance came last weekend against Brentford.
Manager Eddie Howe also had some very flattering words about Fraser when speaking to the press (via Newcastle’s Twitter account).
Howe said: “He has played very well for me on the left [at Bournemouth]. I’ve used him more off the right here due to Maxi preferring that side too so it’s a difficult one. I’ve said before that good players can play in multiple positions and Ryan’s proved that.”
Should Saint-Maximin not be available, Fraser could be the key man for Newcastle
With Frenchman Allan Saint-Maximin coming back from injury, Howe is yet to decide if he’s available for selection. This means Fraser may have another opportunity to shine on the left wing.
The Scot will be full of confidence after his stunning display last weekend. He was at the heart of a lot of the Magpies’ creativity at Brentford.
Since the arrival of Howe, he’s turned around his form. Previously, Fraser struggled on Tyneside when he arrived last summer.
His best performances have come under his old Bournemouth boss. We’ve seen him earlier last month net his first league goal in a 3-1 win over Everton.
With the history, they have together previously it isn’t too surprising. The manager was able to do wonders with Fraser when the two were at Bournemouth, providing a number of assists.
The signs of the turnaround were there in Howe’s first game as Toon boss. Fraser provided an assist coming off the bench in a 3-3 draw with Brentford. Interestingly that was put home by Saint-Maximin.
With a vibrant home atmosphere and a huge amount of confidence, Newcastle looks to attain another three points. Fraser could be a key factor here.
He’s arguably feeling the most confident of any of the players in the squad. A win and results in their favour will further push Newcastle away from the drop zone. Additionally, they’ll close the points gap on Brighton with a victory to 5 points.
