Shearer’s Bar is coming back to Newcastle United.
After speculation that the new owners would be making changes to St James’ Park, it is now clear that they are doing exactly that.
Mehrdad Ghodoussi confirmed in a recent interview that change was on the horizon, but his words have now become a reality.
The main stadium bar has been called Nine Bar for many years, but recently closed its doors for maintenance. Now we know the exact reason why.

Photos on social media show that Shearer’s bar is back at St James’ Park. The Toon legend is once again receiving his own special place at the stadium he used to call home.
Shearer’s Bar returns after nine years
In 2004, Shearer’s Bar opened its door. Nine years later and it endured a rebrand. Owner Mike Ashley took down the Shearer signs, and re-named the club boozer ‘Nine Bar’.
It was another example of the dwindling relationship between Shearer and the club during the Ashley era. The Toon legend managed Newcastle in 2009, and was promised the job on a permanent basis after relegation.
However, Ashley never called Shearer back. He’s still waiting apparently.

He’s the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, yet his statue isn’t even on club property. It’s outside the ground.
But following the change of ownership last year, all is changing. There are reportedly plans to move Shearer’s statue onto club property, and now he’s got his bar back as well.
It’s another positive change that the new owners have made to Newcastle United. Shearer’s Bar will no doubt be packed when the Magpies face Wolves at St James’ Park on April 8th.
