Newcastle fans react as Leicester close in on Perez

Newcastle United have agreed a £30m fee with Leicester for the sale of Ayoze Perez, and the news has sent frustrated Toon fans into meltdown.

Sky Sports News broke the story late last night, that a deal is in place subject to a medical and personal terms being agreed.

Despite being a controversial figure amongst the Newcastle support, Perez is undeniably a crucial player to the squad.

He scored 12 goals last season, and finished the campaign in style, scoring eight in his last nine games.

It was always going to catch the attention of other clubs, but fans had perhaps not been expecting one so close to home.

He’d been linked with plenty of overseas clubs this summer, but a move within the Premier League seemed unlikely.

Now after a devastating week following Rafa Benitez’s departure, things may be about to get worse.

Worryingly Perez is not the only Newcastle star potentially on their way out.

A report from The Sun last week claimed Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka would  also listen to any offers.

Meanwhile Mo Diame has already left, Rondon’s loan has come to an end, Isaac Hayden wants away and Sean Longstaff is being linked with Man United.

By the end of the summer, Newcastle will be lucky if they have even half of last year’s squad.

Although a transfer for Perez was always on the cards, the timing couldn’t be worse.

At this point Newcastle fans don’t know whether to laugh or cry, and so naturally, their reaction has ranged from devastation to bemusement.
