Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made a pretty bold prediction about what could happen at Newcastle United next season.
Newcastle haven’t had the best of seasons considering the success they achieved last year with Champions League football and a Carabao Cup final, but it’s been far from a disaster.
Speaking ahead of their game against Luton last night, Guardiola thinks that Newcastle are going to come back stronger next year because of the experiences they’ve had in Europe this season.
Guardiola says Newcastle are going to be ‘better’ next season
Last season Newcastle fans were in absolute dreamland and looking forward to exciting trips around Europe and more visits to Wembley in the very near future.
However, it’s been a bit of a shock back to reality this year as injuries and a hectic fixture list limited what they could do on the pitch in December and January, and now their form in the Premier League is struggling.
Nobody was expecting them to fight for the title but perhaps another go at trying to break into the top four and establish themselves as an elite club, while now most would snap your hands off for seventh place.
Guardiola is well experienced both in Europe and England having won 16 trophies with Man City and he thinks that Newcastle will now be better off for their experience in the Champions League even if it did not end how they would have liked.
On Newcastle, Guardiola said: “Newcastle next season will be better because I’m pretty sure they will learn from what happened and what it means to play every three days during 11 months.
“They were not used to it in the past. It was the first time and you have to earn this experience and the decision-making. Every season is tougher and I think next season will be tougher for us.”

Newcastle are still making huge progress
It’s easy to be blinded by the fact that Newcastle were top four last season and believe that they should settle for nothing less this year, but progress doesn’t happen in a straight line.
When Eddie Howe first took the job over two years ago any Newcastle fan would have told you that all they wanted was to have a go in the cup competitions and show a bit of ambition to do something other than survive every season.
That’s exactly what Howe and his team have achieved as they sit just two points off of a European spot and are now in their second quarter final of the season after last night’s FA Cup win over Blackburn.
There is still plenty to play for with just 12 games in the league to go and then supporters can hopefully look forward to a busy summer in which Newcastle will look to show big improvement by adding to the squad.
