Pundit Paul Merson has lauded the praises of Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier, claiming he’s become a fundamental part of Eddie Howe’s side.
Writing for his Premier League predictions column for Sportskeeda, the former Arsenal hero singled out the 32-year-old for applause, having played a massive part in projecting the Magpies into top-four contenders.
“I like Kieran Trippier,” Merson said.

“He’s very solid and he’s got a great right foot.
“He’s a big player for Newcastle. He’s been an unbelievable signing.
“He used to play for one of the most disciplined teams in world football, and he’s learnt a lot from there.”
The right-back arrived at St James’ Park in January last year after the Toon agreed a £12m deal with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
Merson full of praise for Trippier
Thus far this season, Trippier has started every single Premier League game for Newcastle.
Captaining the side without Jamaal Lascelles in the XI, the right-back has been ranked as the Magpies’ best player this term. He has averaged an incredible 7.84 match rating, with second place Fabian Schar trailing behind with a 7.26 score.
The England international has added a reliable figure and a strong leader into the Toon squad, making him the perfect professional for Howe to lean upon.

As Merson says, Trippier has certainly improved defensively since his time spent with Diego Simeone in Madrid.
Whilst at Tottenham, the defender looked amazing going forward, but there was room to improve at the back.
Now at Newcastle, the 32-year-old is thriving both offensively and defensively – and he has proven himself to be one of the best players in the league this season.
