Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett has resumed full first-team training.

The 29-year-old has missed the first two Premier League games, after picking up a calf injury against Doncaster Rovers in pre-season.

Dummett did actually feature for the Magpies in the following game against Rotherham United.

But he hasn’t featured since.

The club have released some images from the latest first-team training session, and Dummett can be seen joining in.

It looks like he could be soon set to return.

Newcastle’s next game is against Burnley in the second round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

That might come a bit too soon for Dummett, who will likely be lacking match fitness/sharpness.

Newcastle return to Premier League action on Saturday at 3pm against Southampton.

He potentially may be able to feature against the Saints.

A boost for Newcastle

Dummett being back in the picture is good news.

The £35,000-a-week star (Spotrac) finished last season in good form, so hopefully he can pick up where he left off if he gets called upon in the coming games.

While his return is a boost, Newcastle still really ought to be bringing in a central defender that can play on the left of a back three.
