Paul Dummett was delighted to see one Newcastle United youngster return to the first team in last night’s win against Blackburn.
Newcastle have welcomed a number of players back from injury lately and last night marked the return of one of their academy stars who has been missing for the last few months.
Elliot Anderson posted on Instagram to celebrate his return as he was subbed on in extra time to take a penalty in the shootout and Dummett was overjoyed to see him back out there.
Dummett very happy for Newcastle youngster yesterday
It wasn’t the team performance that many had hoped for but it was a great result for Anderson to make his return to as Newcastle secured their spot in the quarter finals of the FA Cup
Anderson has been out injured since October when he suffered a stress fracture in his back that has caused him to miss the last 17 Premier League games, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
The young midfielder was finally starting to find some form and regular playing time under Eddie Howe who was trusting him more and more.
With Newcastle’s midfield crisis the 21-year-old would likely have also been given an even bigger role these past few months as Joelinton, Joe Willock and Sandro Tonali have all been out missing.
Regardless, the midfielder is now back amongst the team and will be hoping to return to full fitness as soon as possible.
On Instagram, Anderson posted: “It’s been a very tough period on the sidelines away from the team, last night is exactly what I missed! So happy to have the shirt back on”.
To which Dummett responded with: “Good to see you back out there”.

Anderson could play a huge part in Newcastle’s season
Newcastle have been crying out for some extra bodies this season, especially in the midfield, and they could have really used the energy and drive of Anderson in their latest run of games.
The midfield of Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley has grown very stale recently and Howe will be keen to shake things up, though he’s admitted he doesn’t want to rush him back too soon.
It was a risk even giving him an appearance last night as the boss claimed even 10 minutes may have been too much, but he had wanted him on for his penalty taking ability which proved to be key in winning the game.
Now, as he builds up his match fitness Howe will be hoping that he can utilise the Whitley Bay-born midfielder in their last 12 games of the season.
