Micah Richards has been waxing lyrical about Newcastle United’s superstar Alexander Isak after his recent run of form.

Speaking on the BBC Sport’s Monday Night Club, Micah Richards was full of praise for the 23-year-old Newcastle forward saying: “At the Euro’s he was outstanding. That’s where he had all the eyes on him and he performed really well. In terms of technically, he’s fantastic. He’s obviously quick and can run in behind. We have all seen his assist last week.”

The assist in question was the run that teed up Jacob Murphy‘s goal in the game against Everton on Thursday last week that wasn’t credited to him in the end due to a deflection on the way through to the winger. A point that Chris Sutton wasn’t too pleased about, as he interrupted Richards saying: “He didn’t get an assist in fantasy football did he, which was a joke!” With Richards agreeing: “It was an absolute scandal!”

Alexander Isak is showing that his form in the Euro 2020 wasn’t a fluke

Away from that assist though, Isak has been outstanding lately and as Richards rightly said, he was outstanding in the Euro’s, I remember watching him thinking how awesome it would be if Newcastle had a player like that. Dreams to come true, kids, they just take a while sometimes.

The lanky Swede has turned provider lately after a run of games grabbing the goals for Newcastle. He is showing his versatility and unselfishness which is exactly what Eddie Howe wants from his players.

There’s a very strict “team first” attitude drilled into Howe’s players that Isak has bought into brilliantly. Every striker wants to play through the middle, to be the focal point of the attack and grab the goals and the headlines. It’s hardwired into them. So for Isak to so move out to the left with no fuss and lay the ball on a plate for Callum Wilson shows his true class.

Newcastle are finally starting to catch the national media’s attention

It’s great to see Isak getting the recognition he deserves from national media too, as so many times Newcastle’s players get overlooked even when they’re doing great. I’m looking at Joe Willock here – if you’re not a Newcastle fan you likely have no idea how excellent he’s been this season because so few people mention it.

The attitude towards Newcastle is starting to change now as we’re becoming genuine contenders and the dazzling performances of Alexander Isak are helping to shine a light on some of the other players too with pundits starting to take note of the likes of Willock.
