Alan Pardew has now shared who he thinks was his best ever January signing for Newcastle United during his four years as manager.
Pardew’s tenure at the club was very hit or miss and the same can be said about some of the players he signed as Newcastle played in Europe and battled relegation under his guidance.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Pardew shared how he believed that the signing of Moussa Sissoko was his greatest January addition at Newcastle.
Newcastle are suffering a January struggle this year
While Sissoko was often criticised for his attitude while playing for Newcastle as he at times looked like he couldn’t be bothered to turn up, there are some supporters who would have snapped your hands off for someone like him right now.
Newcastle are currently struggling to find anyone they can add to Eddie Howe’s squad within their price range because of the league’s financial rules, and it may end up derailing their season.
Despite having significantly less money in the bank under Mike Ashley, there were a few star players who the club managed to bring in during his reign as owner.
Pardew was head coach of quite a few of those, the likes of Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse coming to mind, but in terms of those who were signed in the middle of a season, Pardew was a big fan of what Sissoko brought to the team.
On the show, Pardew said: “The best one I did in January was Moussa Sissoko. He came in when we were struggling and dug us out of a hole really. He was up and down the pitch, scored a couple of goals on debut against Chelsea I think. He was an outstanding player.”

Newcastle need a miracle this month
Having gone out of both the Champions League and Carabao Cup in December, Newcastle desperately need some new faces to freshen things up and give them hope for the second half of the season.
But they are struggling to find any good value in January, something most clubs will find in the middle of a season, and their main targets like Kalvin Phillips are proving to be too expensive.
It’s gong to take something really special to find a suitable target who is not only a quality addition but also within Newcastle’s January price range, otherwise they may go the whole month without actually bringing someone in and risking another injury crisis.
