Opinion: Trippier’s podcast means more Toon players appear in the future

Newcastle United’s first signing under the new owners, Kieran Trippier, appeared on The True Geordie Podcast. The right-back spoke on his time on Tyneside so far, being in the England squad and his stint at Atletico Madrid.

The fact that Trippier agreed to be on the podcast could open the door for more current Newcastle players to appear down the line. Before that, the ex-players like Alan Shearer, Kieron Dyer and Nile Ranger had been interviewed.

But the 31-year-old is the first current Magpies player to speak on the podcast. He seemed to enjoy sharing his experiences, hopefully, he’ll encourage others to do so.

Which Newcastle players could appear on the True Geordie podcast in the future?

One player who comes to mind is Callum Wilson. The forward currently has a podcast with Michail Antonio of West Ham on BBC Sounds.

Perhaps we could see the two do so some crossovers and get a couple of episodes out of it. Wilson is currently sidelined due to an injury so he possibly has more time on his hands at the minute.

Through ‘The Footballer’s Football Podcast‘, we’ve got to see more of the man off the pitch. True Geordie would be able to get a great conversation out of him.

Another would be Issac Hayden, he’s also ruled out with an injury. In addition, he’s not in the Newcastle squad for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old is one of the top characters in the Newcastle side. He would be another person who would be interesting to hear his take on Newcastle and his career thus far.

Hayden has been a loyal servant to the Toon. He’s was in the Championship-winning side managed by Rafa Benitez, played through Steve Bruce’s stint and is still there now under Howe.

He would certainly have a lot of knowledge on the progression of the club and how it’s been since 2016.

There’s certainly some potential content on the horizon involving Newcastle’s current squad. Trippier’s interview has been seen as a success for far. Some fans would love the opportunity to hear more from players on what it’s like to be a Toon player.
