Manchester City could be about to give Newcastle United a boost in their pursuit of Moussa Diaby.
The Magpies are looking to sign a winger this summer, and have identified the Bayer Leverkusen star as one of their top targets.
The Northern Echo have stated that Newcastle have made fresh contact with the German side about Diaby, who is reportedly valued at £51million.
It was recently claimed in Germany that Newcastle are prepared to pay £34million for the 22-year-old, leaving them £17million shy of Leverkusen’s asking price.

In the meantime, the Bundesliga outfit are trying to sign another winger.
Samuel Edozie heading to Bayer Leverkusen
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City wonderkid Samuel Edozie is heading to Germany.
He reports that a deal is almost completed for the 19-year-old to join Leverkusen. He’ll sign a two-year deal, costing around £10million.

It’s a great price for a player so talented. But he was unwilling to sign a new contract with Man City, effectively forcing them to sell this summer or lose him for free in 2023.
And it’s a deal that could help the Magpies.
Leverkusen might be more willing to sell Diaby
With Leverkusen signing a winger, perhaps they will be more open to selling Diaby. It would certainly make financial sense.
Swapping Diaby for Edozie would give them an exciting young talent who can grow in Germany. It would also give them more cash in the bank to invest in the rest of the squad.

It all depends on where Leverkusen’s priorities lie. They may simply be unwilling to sell one of their star players ahead of competing in the Champions League. Or perhaps Edozie is being signed with a view to letting Diaby head to Tyneside.
If that’s the case and we do sign Diaby then we need to reserve a special thanks for Manchester City.
The Frenchman could be a transformative signing for Newcastle, and it would be a delight to see him in a black and white shirt.
This is all speculation, but let’s hope Edozie to Bayer Leverkusen helps us land Diaby.
