Fans finally return to St James’ Park tonight, as Newcastle United take on Sheffield United.
It’s the Magpies’ final home game of the season, and their first in front of supporters since March last year.
It will be an emotional evening for fans and players, but who will Steve Bruce pick to start the penultimate game of the season?
No change at the back
Despite conceding four goals against Manchester City, it’s unlikely we’ll see any changes at the back.
Fabian Schar is still suspended, while Jamaal Lascelles is injured.
The only option to return to the side is Ciaran Clark, who has started the previous two games on the bench.
However, it would be harsh to drop Emil Krafth. Despite a face of embarrassment, the defender scored his first Toon goal in the defeat to Manchester City.
Will Andy Carroll make an appearance?
The game will be Newcastle’s final one at home this season. And it could be Andy Carroll’s final game at St James’ Park as a Toon player.
His contract expires this summer, and reports suggest he won’t be getting an extension.
The 32-year-old deserves one final appearance in front of the fans, but shouldn’t start.
Joelinton should continue up front, and must add to his goal tally in the final two games.
He scored an emphatic penalty against the champions, whilst he scored in this fixture last season.
But regardless, Carroll should get a runout off the bench.
Predicted XI to face Sheffield United: Dubravka; Murphy, Krafth, Fernandez, Dummett, Ritchie; Willock, Shelvey, Almiron; Saint-Maximin, Joelinton.
