Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been calling for the club to sign Jetro Willems after St James’ Park was named as one of the most likely destinations for the Dutch defender.
The Newcastle Chronicle spoke to a German journalist about Willems’ future after the 26-year-old posted a tweet showing him watching the Magpies’ most recent match, and he tipped Willems to move to either PSV or Newcastle in the near future.
As you can imagine, this excited a number of fans.
Willems was of course on loan at United last season, and he was largely impressive during that loan spell, famously netting goals against both Liverpool and Manchester City.
Unfortunately, the left-back didn’t have the best end to his time on Tyneside, picking up a rather serious injury towards the end of his loan spell.
Willems still hasn’t fully recovered from this injury, but when he is back it seems likely that he’s going to be leaving Frankfurt, and Newcastle United could benefit from that.
Fans certainly want to see him back, with a number of supporters claiming that he has unfinished business at the club, while a number of others said that he was better than current first-choice left-back Jamal Lewis.
Whether or not this move comes to fruition remains to be seen, but it would make a lot of sense for Newcastle to go back in for their former loanee if he is to leave Frankfurt in 2021.
He has unfinished business here.

Wants to be here has heart snd passion for the club it’s a no brainer to me, but then our manager and hierarchy don’t have the brains they were born with so probably won’t happen

Yes I would he has unfinished business. No doubt they’ll still be some say we’ve got injured goods or have him on the cheap pile if he doesn’t come back as good straight off

Yep. I think he’s better than Lewis personally and he could help him develop.

In a heartbeat, not just for the starting XI, but he’d also be a great player for Jamal Lewis to learn from
