Nick Pope sends message to 31-year-old Newcastle player after win against Fulham

Nick Pope has sent a three-word message to one Newcastle United player after their comfortable win over Fulham yesterday afternoon.

Pope was missing from the game through injury, but that didn’t stop him showing support for his teammates who ended their run of two consecutive defeats in the Premier League.

Pope took to Instagram to write a message of support for Dan Burn who scored Newcastle’s third goal of the afternoon and wrapped up a crucial three points against Fulham.

Burn returned to Newcastle as a local hero

Burn has been out injured for the last few weeks, making his first start back in the team against Fulham, though he was actually expected to be back in the new year.

It was a late call to start the defender but one that paid off as Burn latched onto the end of a brilliant cross from Bruno Guimaraes late in the second half and eventually bundled the ball into the back of the net.

It was disappointing for Lewis Hall, however, who may have been itching to get into the team considering Kieran Trippier was suspended for the game and Matt Targett was still out injured, but Eddie Howe opted for the more reliable Burn at left-back once again.

Pope has been out of the team since picking up his injury against Man United and won’t return for a number of months, but he was happy to see Burn score at the Gallowgate end yesterday.

On Instagram, Pope posted the three-word message: “He’s from Blyth.”

It’s been a while since the £13m signing was serenaded by St James’ Park but it was most definitely worth the wait after yesterday’s result.

Pope’s return would be huge for the Magpies

Given the severity of the injury, the shot-stopper is not expected to be back in the team until towards the end of the season.

Getting him back ahead of schedule would be a monumental boost to Newcastle and Howe as the team are slowly starting to get players back from injury and add a bit off depth to the squad after what’s been a very difficult month.

Pope’s replacement, Martin Dubravka, has struggled with the pressure of stepping back into the team even despite his clean sheet against Fulham.

It would be great to see the Slovakian excel during this spell, but Newcastle are really going to miss Pope’s commanding presence at the back in the coming months.
