Nick Pope says Alexander Isak looked like a wizard on Thursday night

The main talking point of Newcastle United’s 4-1 win over Everton on Thursday night was Alexander Isak’s blinding run to set up Jacob Murphy, now Nick Pope has shared his thoughts on the Sweden international.

Nick Pope sat down with Sky Sports’ Keith Downie to talk about all-things Newcastle and, inevitably, Downie asked what the lads have been saying about Alexander Isak’s assist for Jacob Murphy on Thursday night.

“Yeah. Hard to explain I think,” said Pope. “He just looked like he did what he wanted. He looked like a wizard, didn’t he? Amazing moment for him and right in front of the away fans down that side as well is a real special moment and a special bit of play.”

Isak has drawn comparisons to Thierry Henry

The big debate right now with Isak is whether or not the comparisons to Thierry Henry are justified. Newcastle fans tend to believe it’s a fair assessment but there’s a feeling amongst rival fans that it’s too soon to be comparing him to one of the greats.

While it may be a bit early for such comparisons, after all he’s only scored 10 goals this season, albeit he’s done that in 15 games, he needs to score regularly consistently over a couple of seasons before he can be truly compared to the likes of Henry.

Isak will be unstoppable with more creativity behind him

Right now, it’s clear there are similarities in his game: The way he runs with the ball, his calmness under pressure and his ability to play on the left and create as well as score. All traits of prime Henry.

Personally I genuinely back Isak to be challenging for the Golden Boot next season, especially if Newcastle manage to bring in someone like Moussa Diaby and/or James Maddison to create chances for him.

With Popey’s wizard comparison, it might be time for Bruno Guimaraes to pass on the magic hat he received from Matt Ritchie.
