Newcastle United’s owners have made no secret of the fact that they’d be looking to invest in another football club and they may have found what they’re looking for in Oostende of Belgium.
Reports from Belgian outlet Niewsblad have claimed that Newcastle had sent a delegation to Belgium to visit the Ostende Stadium and training complex with a view to taking over the club in the future.
Newcastle aren’t the only Premier League side with owners interested in Oostende with Wolverhampton Wanderers and AFC Bournemouth having also approached the Belgian side.
Newcastle’s owners are interested in taking over Oostende of Belgium
Oostende were relegated from the Belgian top flight at the weekend but that hasn’t deterred the PIF from making their move. In fact, other English clubs have links in the Challenger Pro League with Manchester City having Lommel under their wing and Crystal Palace being linked to RWDM Brussels, although RWDM look like they might get promoted this season.
The current Oostende situation sounds painfully familiar if you’re a Newcastle fan, although their misfortunes could end a lot quicker than what happened with us. They were taken over in 2020 by Pacific Media Group and have come under fire from fans for the way they’ve run the club.

Oostende have been selling their best players for good profit and failing to reinvest in the playing staff. Sound familiar? Their situation gets worse as it turns out the club is in considerable debt and has failed to make payments to staff and suppliers.
Newcastle could be looking to build a group like that of Manchester City
It seems then, that a quick sale would be in the club’s best interest.
If the PIF were to take over at Oostende they would likely create a link between the Belgian club and Newcastle much like Manchester City have their City Football Group who currently have done this with eleven other clubs around the world.
It would take PIF a while to acquire as many clubs to match City’s group, but they certainly have the wealth and the ambition to copy that model and maybe even surpass what they’ve done.
