Newcastle’s Fabian Schar reacts on Instagram as Switzerland stun France

Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has given his reaction, after Switzerland knocked France out of Euro 2020.

Yesterday was undoubtedly the best day of the tournament so far.

In the first game, Spain needed extra time to beat Croatia 5-3, and then France and Switzerland played out another absolute thriller.

Switzerland went ahead through Haris Seferovic.

Ricardo Rodriguez then missed a penalty, with France striker Karim Benzema then hitting two goals in two minutes to turn the game on its head.

Paul Pogba then scored a world-class goal, and it looked like the game was over.

But Seferovic pulled one back, before Mario Gavranovic equalised in the dying embers to take the game to extra-time.

The frenetic match would go to a penalty shootout, where Kylian Mbappe was the only player to miss.

£3 million Newcastle star Schar (BBC Sport) stepped up as taker number two for the Swiss, converting beautifully into the corner.

The 29-year-old started the game on the bench, but was introduced to the action in the 97th minute.

Fans were utterly engrossed in the game on social media, and one can only imagine what it was like actually playing in it.

Schar had only one word to say following the rollercoaster of emotions:
