Bruno Guimaraes has added some more Brazilian flair to Newcastle United, and he believes his ‘skills’ really make him standout.

The 24-year-old joined the Magpies in January, costing £35million from Lyon. He became the second Brazilian player at the club right now, joining Joelinton.

The Samba stars have been well and truly embraced on Tyneside, with Brazil flags and shirts seen far and wide as Toon fans support the club home and away.

Bruno is part of an elite group of Brazilian players who currently ply their trade in the Premier League. He is joined by fellow internationals Casemiro, Antony, Alisson Becker and close friend Lucas Paqueta.

And there are also two Brazilian attackers at Arsenal who Bruno is very fond of.

Bruno Guimaraes praises Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus

The Newcastle midfielder has recently been interviewed by the Premier League’s official YouTube channel.

Bruno was asked why he thinks Brazil are so good at producing skilful players, and was quick to namecheck Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus of Arsenal.

“This comes from the favelas in Brazil. We play in the streets every time,” he said.

“It’s the technique, it’s the dribbling, it’s ‘never be afraid’. I always try to do something different to change a game.

“Many Brazilians have this skill in the pocket – [Gabriel] Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus. I told you before that the Premier League is the most difficult league in the world. When you have some skills, it can help you.

“You always have anything in the pocket to make the difference.”

Newcastle and Arsenal are flying

With the skill of Bruno, Martinelli and Jesus behind them, Newcastle and Arsenal are doing brilliantly this season. Along with Fulham, they are the surprise packages.

While Eddie Howe’s side are launching a European charge and currently sit fourth, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are in title contention.

They are currently top of the league after playing 11 games, and sit two points clear of Manchester City in second.

Arsenal have been exceptional so far this season, and that is partially down to the form of Martinelli and Jesus. The Brazilian duo have 15 goal contributions between them already, and have dazzled with their skill and creativity.

While his numbers are nowhere near as good, we have seen similar heroics from Bruno in a Newcastle shirt. He certainly isn’t a showboater, but his flicks and tricks often leave Toon fans in awe.

As he said, he tries to do different things to change a game. His willingness to take risks and possibly make a mistake is what makes him so special.

Bruno is part of a talented group of Brazilians in the Premier League right now, many of which will be going to the World Cup this winter. For many, they will be considered the favourites.
