Yesterday was a fantastic experience for Newcastle United youngster Lewis Cass.
The starlet watched on as Hartlepool United edged out Torquay United in the National League play-off final to clinch promotion.
Hartlepool went ahead in the game through Luke Armstrong.
It looked as though that goal would be enough. But Torquay goalkeeper Lucas Covolan popped in injury time to equalise.
Hartlepool would recover from the setback though to win 5-4 on penalties.
The club are now back in League Two after four seasons away.
Magpies youngster Cass may not have featured yesterday, but his contributions have been plentiful in 2020/21.
He made 33 league starts for the club.
Cass took to social media following yesterday’s celebrations.
Fans in their hundreds congratulated him. Many noted how fantastic he has been for the Pools this season.
Toon starlet Elliot Anderson also left his congratulations.
It now remains to be seen what the future holds for the 21-year-old.
His contract with Newcastle expires next summer, so it’s likely significant talks will take place between club and player.
