Newcastle United are yet to make any decision on the future of defender Paul Dummett, according to the Chronicle.
The Wales international is set to leave St. James’ Park at the end of the season, but the club supposedly do have the option to extend his contract by a further year.
Dummett has been with Newcastle his whole career, and clocked up almost 200 appearances for the first-team to date.
This term he has managed just 13, with the likes of Jamal Lewis and Matt Ritchie preferred at left-back.
Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles have also made appearances at centre-half hard to come by.
But Dummett has always answered the manager’s call when it has come.
The 29-year-old is on record as saying he would love to be a one-club man, but it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will grant him that extra year.
Currently, the player is only looking ahead to the club’s final three games of the season.
Dummett should get one-year extension
Like Matt Ritchie, he is not a top-class footballer, but Dummett should be retained for another season as he brings important qualities such as versatility and leadership.
The £35,000-a-week star (Spotrac) is one of few that will die for the badge and it’s important to keep hold of such individuals.
Hopefully Newcastle officials will get to work on the extension as soon as the season ends.
