Newcastle ‘will feel’ they can replace Eddie Howe with 44-year-old ‘genius’

There have been plenty of rumours that Newcastle United could look to replace Eddie Howe as manager for next season.

Howe massively overperformed with the squad that he had last season which has certainly piled the pressure on him, and now there’s a level of expectation at Newcastle.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Newcastle could look to target Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi as a possible replacement for Howe.

Newcastle have a list of potential Howe replacements

In the last few weeks it emerged that Newcastle were looking at Julian Nagelsmann as a possible manager, though his lack of Premier League experience may be a slight concern.

Instead, Newcastle could once again look to poach someone from Brighton having already taken Dan Ashworth and Dan Burn from the Seagulls in the last couple of years.

The Italian has been really impressive on the south coast having helped Brighton to qualify for the Europa League last season after a brilliant sixth place finish, though their domestic form has started to struggle lately.

Real Madrid were also believed to be fond of the former Sassuolo manager who has previously been described as a footballing ‘genius‘, so Newcastle will certainly have strong competition if they’re hoping he will replace Howe.

On De Zerbi, Jacobs said: “Were they to draw up a succession plan, I think there would be a few names. I wouldn’t rule out Lopetegui. De Zerbi will be in demand, and I think Newcastle will feel they can enter that conversation.”

Howe still doing a top job for the Magpies

Newcastle have suffered a lot of injuries this season and there was a fear that there could be nothing to play for as they looked like they were heading for a mid-table finish.

A big win against Wolves has given them a big boost for their European hopes and a win tonight against Chelsea would see Newcastle shoot back up into seventh and in a strong position going forwards.

Considering all of the factors that have been going against him this year, Howe has navigated the season well and it’s understood that Newcastle’s owners are still happy with the job is doing.

Lots could still change from now until the end of the season, but it does feel like Howe will be given at least the start of the new campaign after a big summer transfer window.
