It’s been a long time since Newcastle fans saw Miguel Almiron in his best position.
This season he’s been playing in a deeper midfield role or out on the right wing. Neither of those positions get the best out of the Paraguayan.
He struggles to influence proceedings centrally, while he’s always on his wrong foot when deployed on the right.

But with Joe Willock injured, Steve Bruce has a golden opportunity to play Almiron in his best position – attacking midfield. It’s an opportunity that Bruce must not ignore.
Miguel Almiron needs to play in number 10 role
Bruce confirmed that Willock will miss the trip to Watford due to a foot injury.

And with Jamaal Lascelles out as well, Bruce may be forced to start with a back four. We changed formations midway through the draw with Leeds, ditching five at the back.
Playing a back four allows us to get an extra body in attack, which could benefit Almiron.
Bruce must go with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Almiron playing in the number 10 role. He thrived in that position last season when Graeme Jones introduced the diamond shape.

A 4-3-3 with Almiron in midfield won’t work. We’ve seen already this season how much he struggles in a midfield three.
We desperately need to get our first win of the season against Watford, and to do so we will need our best attackers flourishing.
Almiron can do that if he finally gets to play in his best position.
