Newcastle United as well as four other clubs are keen on Tom Lawrence of Derby County, according to TEAMtalk. The other clubs interested are Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brighton and Hove Albion, Burnley and Fulham.

Lawrence is out of contract this summer and has spent the last five seasons with Derby. Whilst the Rams have had an impressive season considering their points deduction, the Welsh winger has also had an impressive campaign.

It seems likely that the 28-year-old will make the switch this summer when his deal expires. This means he will be available as a free agent.

Lawrence’s season mirrors the impressive Derby

At the start of the season, Derby all but seemed dead and buried. They were given a 21-point deduction at the start of the season and were tipped to go down. They were then deducted another 9 points in November

However, under Wayne Rooney they’ve got a chance. The Rams sit second bottom in the league but are now only 9 points away from safety. Had that not been the case, they would currently be in a comfortable 11th place.

Lawrence has certainly played his part in the side this season he currently has 7 goals which makes him Derby’s top scorer.

Depending on their fate, Lawrence is an option to consider for the Championship

Should Newcastle end up in the bottom three and relegated this season, they’ll need players with Championship experience to get them back to the Premier League.

In the summer Lawrence, 28 should be an option to consider should that occur. He’s proven at that level and could potentially play his part in a push for promotion.

But if Newcastle avoids the drop, then they should look for other options. Premier League football is a big pull factor in the summer. With owners willing to invest, Lawrence shouldn’t be on the Newcastle radar if they stay up this season.
