This summer will see the return of Newcastle United’s loan army to the club.
While it remains to be seen exactly who has a long-term future at Newcastle United, Eddie Howe will see a number of players return to his squad.
Isaac Hayden is due to return to Newcastle from Portsmouth, while another player set to come back to St James’ Park is Harrison Ashby.
Ashby joined QPR on loan in the summer of 2024 and is now set to make his way back into the Newcastle United squad.
Interestingly, Ashby starred against Sunderland in his final game for the west London club and provided an assist in their 1-0 victory over the Black Cats on the final day of the Championship season.
Having come to the end of his loan deal, the 23-year-old sent an emotional message to QPR fans.

Harrison Ashby sends emotional message to QPR fans
Taking to Instagram, Ashby posted a lengthy goodbye to supporters.
The defender wished QPR the best, talking of “welcome” they made him feel over the course of the season.
Ashby was highly rated at QPR, but it remains to be seen if that was in fact his final game for the club.
Harrison Ashby’s stats for QPR
The former West Ham youngster played a reasonably big role as the club secured Championship survival.
He made 31 appearances across all competitions, 19 of which were starts. Ashby provided one assist, which came against Newcastle’s biggest rivals Sunderland on the final day.
| Harrison Ashby | 2024/25 QPR statistics |
| Appearances | 31 |
| Starts | 19 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Tackles/90 | 1.9 |
| Interceptions/90 | 0.4 |
That was an upgrade on his time at Swansea during the 2023/24 campaign, at least in terms of appearances. His time in south Wales saw him make only 16 appearances, though he did score one goal and register one assist during that time.
Hopefully, it’s a sign Ashby is building. First-team chances may be hard to come by at Newcastle but his development as a player is still important.
