Newcastle United are a football club who are doing all the right things to try and secure a successful long-term future and the academy has been a big beneficiary of the developments in the last two years.
After years of neglect under the previous owner, Newcastle fans finally have a club they can be proud of and one that puts a lot of emphasis on growing young talent.
We’ve already seen the emergence of Lewis Miley in the last six months, so it makes you wonder if there are any other hidden gems in the academy who could make an impact in 2024.
Charlie McArthur could be of use to Eddie Howe this season
Eddie Howe will of course be hoping that there are no more serious injuries to first-team players this season, but recent history would suggest he’s just not going to be that lucky.
Both Fabian Schar and Sven Botman have dealt with knocks in this campaign so it’s not completely out of the question that Newcastle could turn to Charlie McArthur if they need a central defender to step up.
In an interview with The Chronicle, the teenager revealed that despite an early injury in his Newcastle career, he has been working hard to get back to his best after signing in the summer of 2022.

Alex Murphy was impressive in Newcastle’s pre-season
Murphy is a name you may have already heard of because it was only recently he made his first-team debut in a 4-1 win against Chelsea, and it could just be the first of many after the teenager’s impressive performances in pre-season.
The Irishman played the full 90 minutes against Fiorentina back in August at St James’ Park where he kept a clean sheet and received praise from Sven Botman for his display.
Murphy can also play at left-back so should the Lewis Hall deal not work out for some reason, Eddie Howe will at least have another option to bring through to support Dan Burn.
