The Newcastle United’s Supporters’ Trust have released a statement after news emerged that 45 tickets for the club’s Champions League clash with Barcelona later this month have been given to a school in Dundee.

The Champions League is set to return to St James’ Park, bringing with it a heavyweight fixture to kick things off.

Indeed, Newcastle United are hosting Barcelona on Thursday, 18 September as Eddie Howe begins his second European campaign in charge of the club.

It is a huge game and it’s difficult not to think of the famous night in which Tino Asprilla scored a hat-trick for Newcastle against Barcelona in 1997.

Still, a fan group have been concerned about the news that 45 tickets have been awarded to a school in the Scottish city of Dundee.

According to The Courier, the school in question was approached by an approved provider, with the tickets booked as part of a group package.

That has frustrated supporters, with tickets for the huge game on Tyneside already at a premium.

Taking to social media platform X, the Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust issued a statement.

They revealed that they had approached the club themselves for comment. 

Their statement read: “We have been inundated with messages regarding a school in Dundee being given 45 tickets for the Barcelona fixture.

“With >100k in today’s member sale queue and countless tickets on 3rd party sites at vastly inflated prices, we completely understand the ongoing frustration from our members and the wider fanbase. We have sent this to the club and continue to push for a response.”

After the Barcelona game, Howe’s side head to Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise at the start of October.

Following next month’s international break, Newcastle host Benfica and Athletic Bilbao before a trip to Marseille on 25 November.

December sees them travel to German side Bayer Leverkusen before their league phase fixtures wrap up in January. A trip to PSV Eindhoven awaits on Wednesday 21 January 2026, with the final game of the initial stage of the competition taking Newcastle back to Paris to play PSG on Wednesday, 28 January.
