One player in particular feels poised to step up for Newcastle United in the absence of Alexander Isak.
Since Isak’s move to Liverpool, goals have been hard to come by for Newcastle United. They have only found the net three times in the Premier League, picking up one win from their opening five games.
The floodgates did slightly open during Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Bradford City, but it is clear that Eddie Howe needs to get more out of his attacking players following Isak’s deadline day departure.
The hope is that summer signings Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa will provide the goals that Newcastle need, but there is also an expectation that Anthony Gordon is about to do something special in black and white.

Newcastle United expecting Anthony Gordon’s best season ever
The 2024/25 season was difficult for Anthony Gordon. He started slowly after speculation he was going to join Liverpool, while he ended it slowly too after being sent off in the FA Cup against Brighton.
The hope is that the 2025/26 campaign will be different, with the Athletic providing some interesting details on how the 24-year-old is viewed internally at Newcastle United.
According to the Athletic, people within the club are ‘convinced’ that Gordon is going to hit ‘new heights’ this season and enjoy his best campaign ever.
They report that Gordon’s ‘attitude and application’ during the summer has been ‘off the charts’, as he attempts to raise his game even further.
What followed was another hurdle. The £45million man began the season as Newcastle’s main striker, then he was subsequently sent off in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool. Gordon’s red card resulted in a three-match ban, putting the brakes on what is expected to be an incredibly bright season.
Is Anthony Gordon suspended for Newcastle United vs Arsenal?
Following his red card against Liverpool, Gordon received a three-match domestic ban. That ban is now over, having missed Premier League games against Leeds United, Wolves and Bournemouth.
The Magpies’ number 10 signalled the end of his suspension by starting the Carabao Cup win over Bradford, and it was a bright performance on the left of attack.
He is available to face Arsenal on Sunday, and does feature in Geordie Boot Boys’ predicted Newcastle United XI.
This is where Gordon’s season truly starts. He got his first goal of the season in the Champions League defeat to Barcelona, and now he must go on a run that really launches what is expected to be his best season ever.
