Newcastle United fans are all awaiting news about a potential new stadium.

St James’ Park has of course been Newcastle United’s iconic home for 133 years but there are increasing suggestions the club and owners PIF will soon look to move to a new ground.

Whatever decision the Newcastle United owners make, it’ll split opinion. Moving to a state-of-the-art new ground no doubt brings financial benefits but leaving St James’ would be hugely emotional.

PIF are considering building a new stadium for Newcastle and supporters are awaiting an update on the plans.

The Daily Mail have provided more insight.

When Newcastle United could make new stadium announcement

They suggest a decision could be communicated with fans “within the next month”, which would coincide with the end of the Premier League season.

The owners and executive figures have been shown a “vision” of a potential new stadium on the nearby Leazes Park, along with a video mock-up.

As it stands, it’s said that the move is the current intention of the owners, rather than staying at St James’.

Newcastle United new stadium: Venue, capacity and cost

Newcastle’s potential new stadium could cost up to £1.2bn. In terms of location, Newcastle’s new ground could be in Leazes Park, just next to St James’.

It’s also been claimed that – potentially – Newcastle’s new stadium could be a 68,000-seater, which would make it the second biggest stadium in the Premier League behind Manchester United’s Old Trafford.

It will be fascinating to see what the club say at the end of the season.

Though clearly a project of this nature takes years to complete, the idea that time could be ticking on St James’ is emotional.

When the announcement comes, it’s likely to divide the fans. Whatever they decide will shape the next few years in the story of Newcastle United rather significantly.
