Newcastle United are so far living to regret losing Callum Wilson this summer, particularly in light of Yoane Wissa’s injury.
Wissa was brought in to replace Wilson at Newcastle United, with Nick Woltemade replacing Alexander Isak.
While Woltemade has made an impressive start to life at the club, Wissa remains injured for Newcastle United.
Did Newcastle United make a mistake in paying £50m for Yoane Wissa?
That puts a lot of pressure on Woltemade and his continued absence is making the fact Newcastle paid so much money for a player approaching 30 look even worse.
Wissa cannot be blamed of course but there’s little doubt that watching Wilson shine for West Ham makes it all the more frustrating.

Callum Wilson showing Newcastle United what they’re missing
Wilson did something he’d never done in his career on Saturday as the Hammers drew 2-2 with Bournemouth.
Indeed, for the first time ever, Wilson scored against his former club. He bagged both of West Ham’s goals on the south coast to take his tally up to four goals in the Premier League this season.
Newcastle wanted to keep Wilson but he opted to depart. His form has proven those who wanted to keep him on Tyneside right in their assertion that he would be difficult to replace. So far, he has been.
The move has worked out for him, but the same cannot be said for his former club just yet.
That stings, given Wissa’s absence. Wilson can clearly still operate at Premier League level and while that wasn’t obvious during his final few months at the club, perhaps he should have been afforded more time.

Callum Wilson is outscoring former Newcastle United teammate Alexander Isak too
It’s not only the Newcastle forwards who Wilson is outperforming.
As Wilson was bagging a brace down on the south coast, Isak’s struggles at Liverpool continued.
The Sweden star was again ineffective as Liverpool lost 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest and once again did not complete 90 minutes of action.
Few could have imagined Wilson outscoring both of Wissa and Isak thus far this season.
Wilson has vowed not to celebrate if he scores against Newcastle this season and, on current form, it would be foolish to bet against him doing exactly that.
Wissa may kick on when he’s fully fit again but, so far at least, Newcastle look to have spent huge money to replace a player who could still do a fine job at the highest level.
