Newcastle United will be without Yoane Wissa but will likely have Nick Woltemade available for Thursday’s huge game against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Eddie Howe’s side got their season up and running on Saturday as Newcastle United beat Wolves 1-0 in the Premier League.

Wissa missed the game but Woltemade scored on his debut to give Newcastle a major boost heading into Thursday night’s blockbuster clash.

Indeed, the Champions League is back with a bang on Tyneside. The Spanish champions will play at St James’ Park as the Newcastle United manager begins his second European campaign in charge of the club.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injury news.

Yoane Wissa

Wissa was dealt a cruel blow shortly after signing for Newcastle United.

It felt like Newcastle were waiting to sign the forward for weeks and months and, sadly, they will have to wait a little longer to actually see him play.

Wissa isn’t expected to return before October after suffering a knee injury while playing for DR Congo over the international break.

Potential return date: October 2025

Nick Woltemade

Woltemade came off just after the hour mark on his dream debut at St James’ Park.

The German international was replaced by William Osula on 65 minutes and later complained of feeling cramps.

Woltemade said: “It [the Premier League] was quite hard. I had to go out because I had cramps.

“But I think for the first game, it’s okay.”

Given the fact he was smiling in the interview below, it seems reasonable to assume it’s not a serious problem.

Potential return date: Thursday 18 September 2025 vs Barcelona

Jacob Ramsey

Jacob Ramsey makes it three summer signings who have picked up knocks thus far.

The former Aston Villa midfielder suffered a swollen ankle during his first start for the club away at Leeds before the international break.

While that didn’t appear to be a serious issue at the time, Howe confirmed Ramsey would likely be ruled out until October.

The player himself, however, appears to have other ideas.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Ramsey said he was fit to play against Wolves.

“Yeah, I’m all good,” he said.

“Looking forward to the game on the weekend. Another home game, obviously, I’ve experienced a home game against Liverpool, so yeah, looking forward to playing in front of the fans here.”
