Newcastle United have been dealt two major injury blows over the course of a few days, with Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa not expected back for weeks.
Indeed, while Newcastle United now boast a much deeper squad following a significant summer outlay in the transfer market, options are dwindling for manager Eddie Howe.
The October international break should at least afford some of his players not away with their countries something of a rest but, clearly, injuries have not been kind to Newcastle already this season.
With huge Premier League and Champions League games to come later this month, the Newcastle United manager desperately needs all of his players available.
Having said that, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injury news.
Yoane Wissa
Wissa is yet to play for Newcastle following a £55million move from Brentford on deadline day.
The forward suffered a knee injury while playing for DR Congo last month and was initially expected to return after the October international break.
However, speaking ahead of Newcastle’s clash with Nottingham Forest, Howe confirmed that the 29-year-old is now not expected to feature before November.
“Yoane saw a specialist again yesterday for a check-up on his knee. We probably think now it’ll be eight weeks rather than six [from the point of the injury]. It’s no recurrence or problem, just slightly longer.”
Potential return date: November 2025
Tino Livramento
Livramento has also suffered a knee injury, in a big blow for the club. The England international was stretchered off against Arsenal last month, sparking major fears about a serious injury.
Fortunately, there has since been a positive update on that. While Livramento is expected to miss the next eight games for Newcastle, it at least isn’t as bad as first feared.
Howe confirmed: “He went to see a specialist, the scan initially looked better than we thought it was.
“The specialist confirmed it is an 8-week injury, which is a blow for us with the number of games we have in that period. It is a ligament injury and it will take time to recover.”
Potential return date: November/December 2025
Jacob Ramsey
There has, however, been better news on Jacob Ramsey.
Ramsey hasn’t played for the club since a 0-0 draw with Leeds in August and was initially expected to be ruled out until after this month’s international break.
Still, before the Forest game, a rare bit of good news emerged.
Howe confirmed that Ramsey would likely be in the squad after making good progress on the fitness front.
Potential return date: Sunday, 5 October, 2025 vs Nottingham Forest
